Mail deliveries to the College will drop to one a day within a month if the Postmaster General's order to cut mail service throughout the nation is put into practice.

The postal economy dictum will make local carriers cover more area than usual, but only once a day. Also, rather than the present two trips scheule, collections from boxes in the Square area will stop about 6:30 p.m. instead of 11 p.m. as now.

Under this now schedule mail received at the Brattle Square post office after 8 a.m., when the carriers leave on their routes, will wait until the next day for delivery. Most mail from points west will arrive therefore 12 to 14 hours later than it now does.

Mail deposited in local boxes after 6 or 6:30 p.m. will remain there until the next morning.

To forestall enactment of the new schedule, local carriers are canvassing commercial houses in the Square and asking merchants to wire their congressmen in complaint.

Postmaster General Jesse M. Donaldson sent the order to all postoffices Tuesday, April 18, to help him meet the $1,786,000,000 budget allowed him by the House appropriations committee.
