PBH Opens Blood Drive; Goal Is 800

Phillips Brooks House solicitors began last night signing up donors for the Spring Blood Drive, setting 800 students as their goal.

Preliminary forms, that must be filled out before March 15, when the blood taking will begin, are being distributed. A Red Cross mobile unit will handle the collection.

All blood donors will be given a certificate that will enable them to get blood without charge if they need it later.

Polk Chairman

William R. Polk '51, Chairman of the Drive, last night urged everyone to sign up, whether they have given before or not. Whole blood, he said, spoils after three weeks and must be turned into plasma, and frequent donations are necessary to maintain whole blood in local blood banks.

Polk also said, "Anyone in doubt about his ability to give blood should come down and let the doctors check him."

He added, however, that no one in normal health could be harmed by his donation of blood.

This blood drive is the second one to be held this year.
