Six debates will compete today for two $100 prizes in the annual Coolidge debate contest which will start at 3 p.m. in the Germanic Museum.

The orators, J. Phillip Bahn '49, Peter H. Clayton '50, Robert W. Kratz '50, Arthur W. Purcell '50, John H. Sutter '51, and Melvin L. Zurier '50, president of the Debate Council, were picked in a preliminary competition two weeks ago.

They will split into two teams on Friday for the Harvard-Yale-Princeton triangle debates. Today's arguments will serve as practice for those debates, for they will use the same topic: "Resolved, That the Communist Party should be outlawed."

Yesterday a council team made up of Robert W. Kratz '50 and Richard Rohr '50 defeated Tufts in an argument on Federal aid to education which was held at Tufts. This was the team's sixth win out of seven debates on this topic. The only loss was in a previous debate with Tufts.

The freshman team scheduled to debate Tufts yesterday was prevented from doing its duty by a case of measles.
