Smith College picked up the argyl flung its way by a group of Radcliffe knitters, and flipped it right back yesterday.
Four sophomores in Jordan House, rising in ire at what they termed "alienation of Smith's affections for Harvard," offered to prove to any Crimson sock fancier that they knit much more bejeweled patterns than Radcliffe does.
Nancy Mazur, Iris Warren, Jackie Kerr, and Leo Hilles, claiming that they were "little effected (sic) by Radcliffe's taunts," will be happy to go to work as soon as they get requests.
The original inspiration for the Radcliffe statements was an urge to knit for the pennant-winning Braves. But the baseball season is over now, and apparently the quartet from Northampton rates a Harvard man in October a better bet than a baseball player next May.
