Matthiessen to Speak At New Literary Club

Francis O. Matthiessen, professor of History and Literature, will give a talk on "Karl Shapiro's 'Essay on Rhyme'" at the first meeting of the newly formed English Club, to take place in the Upper Common Room of Adams House, on Friday, April 27, at 8 o'clock.

Organized by two graduate students. Henry Popkin 2G and Herbert J. Kramer 1G, the group has planned meetings for alternate Fridays. Programs of the club, whose membership is open to undergraduates, graduates, and faculty members in all departments of the University, will consist of lectures by prominent figures in the field of English, and discussions of the material presented.

In addition to Professor Matthiessen's talk, the group has also scheduled a lecture by Theodore Spencer, associate professor of English, on "Montaigne Reexamined" for the third week.
