After a two-year lapse, Harvard's chess team regained supremacy in the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton-Dartmouth chess competition held at the Marshall Chess Club, New York City, on December 21 and 22.
Compiling a record of ten wins and two losses, the Crimson team was captained by Clarence W. Hewitt, Jr. '42, who captured two of his three matches. Other members of the team included Roger Stokey '42, who won two games and drew a third, Alan Skelly '43, winner of three, and Henry Brandt '43, who also won two and drew one.
This marked the eleventh time that the Crimson representatives have gained possession of the victor's cup, put into the league in 1925 by two Princeton alumni. Yale has won the competition four times, including victories in 1939 and 1940. Princeton has earned the cup twice, and Dartmouth has yet to come cut on top.
