WASHINGTON--The Supreme Court today unanimously upheld constitutionality of the Wages and Hours Law, key New Deal reform which established minimum wages and maximum hours for millions of American workers.
The court affirmed that Congress has full authority under the Constitution to bar from interstate commerce articles produced in violation of established federal standards.
On first reading of the opinion, some attorneys thought in obviated necessity for further action on the proposed child labor amendment to the consti- tution but Gerard D. Reilly, Labor Department Solicitor, said that ratification still is necessary to prohibit child labor in intra-state commerce. He said the decision merely "upheld again the right of Congress to regulate child labor in interstate commerce.
