MOUNTAINEER CLUB MAKING NEW PROGRAM

Club Outlining Expedition To Peru Tonight in Lowell

At an open meeting at 7:15 o'clock in Lowell House Common Room after their annual fall dinner, the Harvard Mountaineering Club will discuss plans for a climbing expedition to Peru, next summer.

Andrew Kaufman '43 will give an illustrated lecture on the Club's first Peruvian expedition, which last August attempted to climb 19,000 foot Mr Huagerruche. He will then discuss organization of the second expedition, aiming to tackle a new and higher peak in the Andes.

In addition Maynard Miller '43, president of the Club, will talk on the Coast Range Glaciers and flords of southern Alaska, which he climbed last summer. Movies of Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire will be shown by Kenneth Henderson '24, a graduate member and author of the Army's new mannel for alpine units. The aim of this program is to cover as comprehensively as possible the three main ranges of the Western Hemisphere.

Mountain Battalion Formed

At this meeting slips will be distributed with questionnaires regarding prospective service with the Army mountaineering battalion by members expecting to be drafted. This unit is being formed with the cooperation of graduate members of the Club, and the possibilities of joining it will be outlined. The Club's new schedule of ice climbs for this winter will be announced, and newly qualified members formally taken in.
