The Crime

RAZZLE-DAZZLE

It was one of those crucial games of the football season. The Freshman seconds were playing a local school, and both teams were definitely out to win, and no fooling. The coach of the school had given plenty of thought about this game and was all ready for the Freshman seconds.

After the kickoff one of the school players sneaked over to the side lines and lay there until the first play. When the ball was snapped back, he rose up and caught a long pass that was tossed to him, a perfectly executed sleeper pass. But the Harvard Freshman seconds were still in there fighting. They caught up with the catcher of the pass and were about to smother him on their own 30-yard line, but again they were fooled.

This time he hurled a long lateral the width of the field according to the preconceived plan of the coach. The pass was caught beautifully, but still the Freshman seconds were in there fighting. This man they dropped on their own three yard line.

At the end of the play, the assistant coach of the local school looked up to the head coach, and muttered, "Boy, that play certainly succeeded, didn't it?"

"Almost," was the answer.
