Friday's cross-country race proved to track fans that Jaakko Mikkola has produced another championship team this year, a team which should equal or better the record of Penn Hallowell's 1931 team, and climax the season by winning the Intercollegiates.

Harvard has never before won a more decisive meet from New Hampshire. Even Penn Hallowell's team ran up 19 points, while this year's harriers made a perfect score of 15.

Six veteran runners of last year's team, and Channing, the Sophomore who finished fifth in Friday's meet, form a strong team, with perfect balance. Captain Woodard, Pier, Scheu and Roys, are all in their third year of Varsity competition, while Playfair, though only a Sophomore last year, was rated favorite in the Intercollegiates at Van Cortlandt Park.

Woodard has been a consistent cross-country runner since his Freshman year, when he opened the season by taking first in the Freshman Holy Cross. Pier, who captained his Freshman team, is showing up in much better form this year than at any other time. This season he won the Holy Cross meet and took second in the New Hampshire meet, finishing only a few seconds behind Playfair in the latter.

Scheu, track captain and star miler for Harvard, placed fourth in the New Hampshire meet this year, but finished close behind the leaders and a good distance ahead of the nearest New Hampshire man. Playfair is a sure point winner in any race, while Channing, who was better known last year for his job as anchor man on the relay team than for cross-country, has developed greatly through the summer, and may break the tape in any race.
