ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT POWER FILM

Three Reels Show Development of Many Types of Engines--Construction of Power Plant Pictured

"Power" a three reel motion picture, will be presented under the auspices of the Department of Economics in Emerson J this evening at 8 o'clock. This film, circulated by Stone and Webster, illustrates the development of machinery for the production of power since the invention of the Newcomer Engine.

The industrial revolution which took place about 100 years ago when the steam engine was a new invention is compared with the achievements of modern industry by the general use of electricity. Comparison is made between our water power resources and our coal deposits, and it shows that there is enough coal used yearly to build a Chinese Wall entirely around the United States. Animated drawings demonstrate the operation of a steam turbine and the generation of alternating current. The story ends with the construction of a modern electric power plant and a glance into the future of the electric power industry.
