HOMERUN IN NINTH GIVES VICTORY TO WOLVERINES, 3 TO 1

Collects Three of Crimson Nine's Total of Four Hits--Whitmore Does Well on Mound

A homerun in the ninth inning when the score was tied at one apiece broke up the game between the Harvard and Michigan diamond forces at Ann Arbor on Saturday, giving the Wolverines a 3 to 1 verdict over the Crimson nine.

With Oosterbaan on base, Weintraub unleashed a mighty drive into left field which gave Michigan its first major sport victory over a Harvard team and evened the baseball series between the two aggregations this spring.

Howard Whitmore '29 and MaAfee hurled nine innings of tight ball, and until the disastrous denouement in the ninth, the Harvard pitcher battled evenly with the Michigan ace, holding the champions of the Western Conference to four scattered hits. Altogether, the pair kept the total of hits for the game down to nine.

W. W. Lord '28 collected three of the four hits that his team was able to gather from the offerings of McAfee. Harvard's lone tally came in the second, on singles by Lord and F. E. Nugent '30 and a sacrifice by John Prior '29.
