Bryce-Powell and Sanford Clubs Argue Return of Habeas Corpus Writ

Tonight the Bryce-Powell and Sanford Clubs will meet in Langdell Hall at 8 o'clock to settle the final round of the annual Ames Competition, before the full bench of the Justices of the Supreme Court of the competition in a final hearing and determination upon the return of a writ of habeas corpus. The keeper of the jail of Amesburgh is ordered to have before the court the body of John B. Nemo, who has been detained and confined in the common jail of the city of Amesburgh by virtue of an order of deportation and commitment pending arrangements for deportation made by Vincent Cummings Esq., Commissioner of Immiration.

The attorneys for the petitioner will argue that the order of the Commissioner was void and the commitment and detention of the petitioner was unlawful for several reasons.

The Attorney General of the Commonwealth of the Ames Competition will appear to uphold the order of commitment and deportation because the Commissioner of Immigration found that John B. Nemo was an Italian unlawfully within the Commonwealth and therefore the Commissioner acted properly in ordering his deportation to the Kingdom of Italy from which country the Commissioner found the petitioner came.

The Bryce-Powell Club will be represented by C. G. Heimerdinger 3L., and M. E. Purnell 3L.; the Sanford representatives are H. P. Carter 3L. and J. C. Toaz 3L.

The case will be tried before the Honorable C. W. Pound of the New York Court of Appeals, who will act as Chief Justice, Honorable D. E. Campbell of the Supreme Court of South Dakota, and W. J. McCoy '82, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia.
