IMPROVEMENTS TO MARK 1927 ENGINEERING CAMP

CAMP IS OPEN TO BOTH COLLEGE AND ENGINEERING SCHOOL

Several changes in the equipment and management of the Harvard Engineering School Camp at Squam Lake, N. H., have been announced by Dean H. I. Hughes '94 for the coming summer. This camp which has been maintained for over 20 years at Squam Lake is intended for students in both the Engineering School and the College and the instruction it offers counts toward a regular degree.

The most important improvements this year are in the equipment of the camp. Electric lights have been installed in the class rooms and drafting rooms in place of the acetylene lamps which have often in the past proved a source of annoyance to students. New tents have also been put up for the students living quarters. The other change is in regard to the eating situation at the camp. R. L. Westcott, who is in charge of the Freshman and Business School dining halls, has assumed the direction of supplying the students with food. It has also been decided to have lunch served in the regular dining hall instead of cooked by the individual students in the open.

Although several courses were formerly offered during the eight weeks the camp was in season, the curriculum has now been reduced to one course, Engineering 300, or for those who are enroled in the College. Engineering Sciences 4. This counts as a full course toward a degree and is required of all men who are concentrating in Engineering Sciences. It deals with plane, topographic, and railroad surveying, a large part of the work being in the field.

The attendance has fallen off considerably since the war, the camp formerly having a usual enrolment of 150 to 175 students. It is now being operated with a smaller number of men, 40 being the average established during the last few years. These students are recruited about equally from the College and the Engineering School. June 23 is the day set for the opening of this summer's activities and the camp will then be in session until August 19 Students should register at Pierce 223 or III before June 13.
