TENNIS TEAM MADE CLEAN SWEEP

Six Victories on First Southern Trip of University Squad.

The University tennis team won every match on its first southern trip last week. Captain R. N. Williams, 2d, '16, and W. Rand, 3d, '17 won all of their singles matches; G. C. Cancer '17 was defated only once; and L. Curtis, 2d, '16 was defeated twice. In the doubles, Cancer and Williams lost but one match, and Rand and Curtis were defeated three times. Thus out of a total of 34 individual matches, the University team won 27 and lost 7.

On Monday the team defeated the Agawam Hunt Club at Providence, 4 to 2. The next match was in Philadelphia on Tuesday with the Philadelphia Cricket Club. After the University team had won all of the singles matches, a shower came up and the doubles were cancelled. On Wednesday the Naval Academy at Annapolis was defeated 5 to 1, and or Thursday the Chevy Chase Club of Washington was defeated by the same score. In this match, which was played in a light rain, Captain Williams defeated C. Doyle, ranking played of the South, 6-1, 6-2. The team defeated the Norfolk Country Club on Friday, 5 to 1. The final match of the trip was played with the Baltimore Country Club on Saturday. The University players won three singles and one doubles match, making the final score 4 to 2.
