CORNELL RUNNERS WERE UNUSUALLY STRONG

WINDNAGLE LED WAY IN VICTORY OVER UNIVERSITY DISTANCE TEAM.

The strong Cornell cross-country team ran true to form and defeated the University runners by the score of 35 to 76 at Belmont on Saturday. L. V. Windnagle was the individual winner in 33 minutes, 25 2-5 seconds, leading his team-mate J. S. Hoffmire by 20 yards. Captain Potter and J. C. Corwith, of Cornell finished next at intervals of about 80 yards. A. R. Bancroft '17 and Captain Twitchell '16 were the first University runners to come in, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Bancroft's time was 34.07 4-5, Twitchell being three seconds behind. K. E. Fuller '16 came in third of the University runners, being nineth in the race, and after him came A. R. Eldred of Cornell and W. P. Whitehouse, 2d, '17.

The University team started off with a sprint at the first of the race, Fuller being in the lead at the turn up the hill. Fuller and Bancroft were still ahead at the top of the hill, closely followed by the leading Cornell runners who were well bunched. The latter kept together and gradually opened up a lead as the race advanced. Captain Twitchell came up several places, while G. A. King '18, who had been well up, was forced to drop out when seized by cramps. In the last part of the race Windnagle and Hoffmire put on added speed and outdistanced the other runners.
