SUCCESS IN TRACK.

The secret of success in track lies in getting Freshmen interested in the work. With 13 events to choose from, every man can find an event suited to his particular qualifications. To play football a man must have strength above the ordinary, to play baseball he must have a good eye, in track work he must merely be sound physically. Slight men as a rule make the best distance runners and it has been demonstrated time and again that any man who will train for four years can make good time in the mile or two-mile. He may not be a world-beater but it is the second and third places which win meets.

Of late years the University has been weak in the hammer. This is an event which requires several years to master. For this reason it is important that a man start training for it his Freshman year if he wishes to attain success. For men with some skill at handling themselves, the pole-vault offers a fertile field for development.

Success does not come in an instant and no one can expect to make a record in his first appearance on the track, but four years of faithful effort are almost sure to be rewarded with an "H".
