Mr. F. W. C. Hersey '99, instructor in English at the University, will deliver a series of four free public lectures on "Types of the Modern Drama," in the Lecture Hall of the Boston Public Library on Wednesday evenings at 8 o'clock. The first lecture will be on Wednesday. The purpose of these lectures is to arouse a keener interest among theatre-goers in the better kinds of contemporary plays, and to sharpen the appreciation of the art of the theatre.

To show the conditions under which the playwright works in order to tell his story will be an important feature of Mr. Hersey's lectures. Among various topics which he will discuss are: the structure of plays, comedy, farce, melodrama, musical comedies, the "picture stage," the naturalistic settings, and the acting of Ibsen Pinero, Jones, Bernard Shaw, Barrie, Galsworthy, Augustus Thomas, and Rostand plays. These lectures are free and it is not necessary to procure any tickets. The entrance to the Lecture Hall of the Public Library is on the Boylston street side.
