DARTMOUTH WON BASEBALL

Succession of Errors by University Team Lost Postponed Game, 2 to 1.

Dartmouth took the postponed game on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon by the score of 2 to 1. A succession of errors by the University team was responsible for the defeat, as Hicks pitched a good game, though he evidently did not have as good control as on Tuesday.

Harvard scored first, in the opening inning. Dartmouth tied the score in the second and then both sides were blanked until the ninth, when Dartmouth made the winning run.

Rogers opened for Harvard by beating out a grounder which Orr handled. He stole second and continued to third on Chadbourne's poor throw to second base. McLaughlin's long sacrifice fly to right field allowed Rogers to score easily. Hicks flied to the pitcher and Potter singled, but was left on first when Minot raised a foul fly to Orr.

Harvard did not get a man past second during the rest of the game, and was out in order except in the fifth and sixth innings. The effectiveness of Mitchell's pitching may be judged from the fact that Lanigan reached second at the opening of the fifth inning, on a single and a stolen base, but was prevented from scoring, as Marshall was fanned, and Young and Babson could not hit safely.

Hoban's grounder to Hicks at the beginning of the second inning resulted in a very wide throw to McLaughlin, Hoban reaching third on the play. Chadbourne's single, a short fly over first, allowed Hoban to score. After this inning, Dartmouth did not get a man to third until the ninth. Then Mitchell, the first man up, sent a liner to Minot, who dropped it, the runner reaching second. After Hoban had been put out, Hicks to McLaughlin, Chadbourne's hit was again forthcoming. This time it was a fast grounder through the box which allowed Mitchell to score from second. Chadbourne reached second, but Conroy fanned, and Eaton sent a fly to Rogers. Harvard was out in order in the second half of the inning.
