In addition to the work on the skating rink, other improvements to Soldiers Field have been in progress during the winter and more are proposed.

In the Locker Building, new floors have been laid, the walls have been plastered and the toilets rearranged. Where the grass on the football field was worn away, seed has been sown and the whole field has been covered with a fertilizer. The two grand stands at the ends of the field have been removed because they interfered with the running track, which will be used next spring. The track will be thoroughly rolled, and, if necessary, slightly banked at the turns.

In the spring the proposed plans to beatify the field will be carried out. Professor C. S. Sargent, director of the Arnold Arboretum, has already ordered thirty Norway maples and three hundred shrubs for this purpose. Both the trees and the shrubs will be placed along the North Harvard street fence and around the Lodge, and some of the shrubs will be planted in the rear of the Locker Building. As an experiment, a few willow trees have been planted in the marsh just beyond the football field, and if they grow, a large number of them will be planted to form a windbreak.

The reclaimed land, which is now covered with gravel, will be plowed up in the spring and brought under cultivation, and in case the ground is then found fertile enough to grow grass, the tract of fifteen acres will be added to the "play ground."
