Weld Boat Club.

The interest and activities at the Weld Boat Club have been very much broadened during the present spring. Although the enforced absence of W. S. Youngman L. S., president of the organization, has somewhat affected the policy of the club, his place has been efficiently filled by G. O. Clarke 1900. Donovan, the regular coach has been given entire charge of the various crews, and is now endeavoring to turn out successful eights for the Metropolitan regatta of June 17.

The number of men now rowing at the house is somewhat over a hundred and fifty. This includes a senior, intermediate, junior and second-junior crew, all of which will compete in the June regatta.

Besides these races the management has arranged for several others to take place in the near future. On May 27 the senior crew will have a mile and a half race with the B. A. A. over the regular course in the basin. The prizes are to include cups and a banner the same as last year. This event was won by the Weld last spring. It has further been decided to enter a junior crew in the Harlem regatta which takes place in New York, May 30, and to give the second Freshman crew a two-mile race with the intermediates before they are disbanded.

The concluding event of the rowing season will be the regatta on the Charles, June 17. Last year the Weld was very successful in this regatta and won a majority of the events. The senior crew were sent to Philadelphia as a result of their excellent showing. This year the presence of the Weld senior at the national regatta in Philadelphia depends entirely upon the outcome of the coming races.

As a whole the success of the Weld crews this spring has been unprecedented. While the class races resulted in an unfortunate fiasco, the various crews had previously proved themselves to be very fast, and in the opinion of most coaches quite on a par with the regular class crews of previous years.

The four crews which are now in training show a very considerable improvement over those of last year. The senior crew in particular has shown itself capable of very fast work. They are not yet as well together as they might be, but individually they are a strong, fairly experienced lot of oarsmen.

The crew which is now rowing as an intermediate eight will be sent to New York, May 30. They have shown very fair form thus far and should stand an excellent show of winning.

The various crews are rowing in the following order:

Intermediate-Stroke, Hawes; 7, Clark; 6, Lee; 5, Huntington; 4, Coonley; 3, Sherburne; 2, Schlesinger; bow, Ayer; cox., Wadleigh.

Senior-Stroke, Morrill; 7, DuBois; 6, Tilton; 5, Sheafe; 4, Wood; 3, Butler; 2, Davis; bow, Conroy; cox,. Orton.
