OBITUARY.

Ralph W. Hicks '96.

It will be painful news to the classmates and many friends of Ralph W. Hicks '96 to learn of his death Monday, Feb. 7, at Saranac Lake, N. Y. Although threatened with consumption it was not known that the disease had so far advanced as to make his end near. He himself was planing his return to Cambridge from the Adirondacks, whither he had gone for a change of air when the fatal turn came. Mr. Hicks's mother who had gone to accompany him back was present and the many new friends he had made while there were ready with sympathy and help.

His body was taken to Rochester, N. Y., his former home, and buried yesterday, Thursday, February 10.

Hicks received the degree of A. M. from Harvard last year and had planned his work in Sanskrit for the degree of Ph. D. His high stand in his studies and his promise as a scholar in a special line had endeared him to his instructors, while his genial wit and sympathetic nature made him many friends in social circles. His untimely death will be lamented by all who knew him.
