For the third time in succession Harvard has lost in debate to Yale. The defeat is naturally a bitter disappointment, as Harvard this year enjoyed the advantage of choice of sides, while the unprecedented number of men who spoke in the trial provided more good material than usual from which to select the team.

The contest was held strictly on its merits, and the best team won, showing particular superiority in rebuttal, the final test of debating skill. The shortness of the time required by the judges to reach the decision shows conclusively that they felt little cause for hesitation.

The Harvard speakers, though they have failed to reassert superiority over Yale 's steadily increasing strength in debating, have nevertheless done all that lay in their power to prepare themselves thoroughly and the College may feel confident that their effort was in no way discreditable.
