The nine played four games during the recess and won three of them. The team left Cambridge Wednesday and played the Manhattan Athletic Club on the polo grounds in New York the next afternoon. This game was an easy victory for Harvard and they won by the score of 7 to 0. Highlands and Upton were the battery and they deserve great credit for the excellent game which they played. Highlands struck out fifteen men and not a single hit was made off his delivery; while Upton's work was equally good as he excepted sixteen out of seventeen chances. The men batted well, and there was scarcely any one who failed to get a hit. The team made only two errors which were not at all costly. Coughlin and Wilbur were the Manhattan battery. The next game was played on Saturday at Fordham against the Fordham nine. This was a much closer game and was decidedly interesting. Bates pitched for the first four innings; three hits were made off him. Howe pitched the remaining four innings and three hits were made off him. Cobb caught throughout the game and held both pitchers well, but allowed a great many bases to be stolen. The team batted only fairly well, Hallowell however distinguished himself by making three hits and Frothingham two. Hovey did not accompany the team and Whittemore '95 played short stop. Trafford also did not go on the trip and Dickinson took his place at first base. Appended is the summary of the score:

On Monday the nine went to Philadelphia and played a most exciting game with the University of Pennsylvania. This was the only game which Harvard lost. There was a great crowd present, almost four thousand people. Bayne pitched for Pennsylvania and proved most effective. He struck out the first five men who faced him. Then he was hit by a hot liner in the wrist and for two innings lost his speed. He, however, soon recovered it and had things his own way. Hallowell again distinguished himself, playing his position very well. The full score of the game follows:
