HOPEFUL COLUMBIA.-Our outlook for the race against Harvard next June is very promising. We have only lost two men from last year's 'Varsity crew, the other six remaining in college. Sixteen are candidates, of whom ten are now working in the gymnasium under Captain Meikleham, the other six will come in right after Christmas, and then it is expected that several more candidates will present themselves, both from the School of Medicine and from the Law School. The rowing machines will be put down directly after the Semi annual Examinations.

This year Captain Meikleham proposes that the crew men shall go through a regular course of exercises every day under the new gymnasium instructor, Mr. Cuthbertson, including back weights, chest weights, dumbbells and running, besides the regular twenty minute row on the machines. If Cowles, who stroked '83's 'Varsity crew, can be prevailed upon to stroke this year, we ought, with the rowing material now in college, to be able to send an eight to New London next June which would be a credit both to themselves and to Columbia.-[Spectator.
