AS one who, seated on a rocky shore,

Sees, out beyond the landward breakers' roar,

Some white-sailed skiff upon the summer sea, -

So, from this barren, rocky isle, my life,

Thy vision seems most fair, though waves of strife

And circumstance make war 'twixt thee and me.

Give but the word; I will obey thy call,

I will leap in, and overcome them all,

And, fair or adverse, Fate, will cross to thee!
