BREVITIES.

THE third Natural History lecture was given last evening by Mr. Alexander Agassiz on "Deep-Sea Dredgings," instead of by Professor McCrady on "Jelly-fishes," as announced. Professor McCrady will deliver his lecture on April 5.

THE Rifle Club will begin their spring practice in the course of a few days.

MR. EVERETT will resume his Classical lectures to the Freshman class on Tuesday, March 13, according to the Tabular View.

IN the Index to Vol. VIII., The Poetry, "My Choice," which was credited to Mr. F. Almy, '79, should have been credited to Mr. A. L. Hanscom, '80.

In our last number an error was made in putting the name of Mr. Shorey, '78, for Mr. Whiting, '77, in regard to a discovery in chemistry.

THROUGH the courtesy of Captain Bancroft, the men trying for the club crews are permitted to use the hydraulic rowing-weights at the boat-house.

THE Library Bulletins will be out the beginning of next week. Those who have not yet put down their names for them are requested to do so as early as possible.

THE University Nine will play a game on the Boston grounds with a picked Nine from the Boston and other clubs on next Saturday, at 2.30 P. M., if the weather permits.

THE Nine practised out doors yesterday for the first time this spring.

PROFESSOR CHILD is to deliver twelve lectures on Chaucer, at the Lowell Institute, in Boston, on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The first lecture was given March 7.

LAST Wednesday evening Professor Cooke exhibited some views of Athens with the stereopticon. Professor Norton, during the exhibition, gave a very interesting lecture on Greek Art.

ALL persons wishing to join the Holyoke Club may do so by leaving their names with either the secretary, Mr. F. Donaldson, 43 Holyoke House, or with the captain, Mr. W. M. LeMoyne, 42 Holyoke House.

BOARD at Memorial Hall, during the last month, has been $4.30 per week. Two hundred and ninety-four men have ordered extra dishes; only two have ordered over five dollars' worth, one having run up a bill of $6.50, the other a bill of $5.50.

MR. FISKE'S lectures, which were spoken of in our last number, will be delivered in Wesleyan Hall, Boston, on Friday afternoons at half past four o'clock, beginning on Friday, March 9. Tickets for the course, $4.00; for sale by A. Williams & Co., corner of Washington and School Streets.

FAST DAY is to be the 12th of April, so that the spring vacation will be from the 11th to the 17th, both days inclusive.

THE following is the order of events decided on for the tournaments at the Gymnasium:-

Saturday, March 10. - 1. Horizontal bar. 2. Light-weight wrestling. 3. Vaulting with one hand. 4. Light-weight sparring. 5. Middle-weight wrestling.

Saturday, March 17. - 1. Vaulting with two hands. 2. Middle-weight sparring. 3. Standing high jump. 4. Fencing. 5. Heavy-weight sparring.

Saturday, March 24. - 1. Parallel bars. 2. Heavy-weight wrestling. 3. Running high jump. 4. Club swinging. 5. Unfinished bouts.

All entries must be made at the Gymnasium on the Friday preceding each tournament.

THE attention of students is called to Art. 2 of the printed regulations, and especially to the words "of the Monday following the irregularity." Hereafter, after penalties for absence have been voted by the Faculty (the students concerned having been previously informed by the Secretary that they are in danger of incurring these penalties), no petitions for the removal of these absences will be entertained by the Faculty.

"All excuses for absences, tardmesses, or omissions must be presented before two o'clock of the Monday following the irregularity. All petitioners are required to come to the Dean's office within the week after the presentation of their petitions to learn the decision of the Faculty concerning their requests.
