Still deciding on your plans for the summer? Interested in that one Immunology or Elementary Arabic course that you didn’t get to fit into your schedule this year, but still looking for a professional opportunity while in Cambridge?

Join more than 140 of your peers in the Yard and Houses to serve as a proctor for Harvard Summer School students, either in the Secondary School Program or the General Program. Proctors will provide supervision, information, advising, discipline, and social activities for students to have a safe, enjoyable, and academically productive experience. You'll gain valuable leadership skills, tuition for one Summer School course, and have an amazing summer while making a tangible difference in the lives of students.

As a proctor, you'll live on campus throughout Proctor Orientation, Opening Weekend, and the entire Summer School term, while ensuring student safety, security, and well-being for the duration of the term and setting the tone for their entryway and informing students of Summer School policies, procedures, and calendar as well as Harvard and local COVID-19 guidelines. Other expectations include abiding by and enforcing policies by maintaining discipline and reporting violations, attending weekly meetings led by Assistant Dean, holding regular office hours/weekly study breaks and being on-call for emergencies, and supporting Summer School activities (chaperoning trips, supervising event/programs)

NOTE: Proctors may not work more than 20 hours a week at another job or enroll in more than one 4-credit, 7-week course

Currently enrolled Harvard College undergraduates, recent Harvard College graduates, and Harvard graduate students, and FDO proctors and House tutors

We seek candidates with a demonstrated interest in working with students, and experience working with an ethnically and culturally diverse population. Applicants must also possess the physical capacity and social communication skills to supervise and address the needs of students under their care. Those applying to the Secondary School Program should also show some experience/interest in working with high school students.

ACADEMIC TUTOR PROGRAM

Looking for an additional employment opportunity as a proctor? Tutor high school, college-age, and adult students across a wide range of subjects under the Academic Tutor Program, which offers flexible hours (up to 20 per week) for you to balance your schedule with entryway social activities and coursework. Tutors support the Summer School in its mission to provide students with a first-rate academic experience in 1-on-1 and group sessions. Responsibilities include reviewing course material and clarifying concepts, helping with exam preparation, and supporting academic skill development (e.g. time management, note-taking, reading comprehension).
